If you want an affordable fitness tracker, or even just an unobtrusive wrist-based notification buzzer, the Mi Band 6 really is the way to go. Granted, I'm barely wearing it while I'm home, but this shows that standby battery life is no joke. I can imagine that it might not live up to the battery life of its predecessor with that tiny screen, but I've still only had to charge it twice since the review from a month ago. Other than that, the band has basically turned into a glorified notification buzzer for me, and thus, battery life is stellar. This might not be as bad when you're out running, but I personally find myself riding the bike much more often and would love to have it just automatically start tracking. I need to approve tracking manually, which is rather dangerous when I'm on my bike in the middle of Berlin traffic. It notifies me whenever it detects a workout, but it doesn't start tracking right then and there. However, I've been annoyed with automatic workout tracking on the Mi Band 6. A display that stretches across the whole shape is much more aesthetically pleasing. In fact, I actually took another look at the Band 6's predecessor, and it's incredible how old-fashioned and straight up ugly it looks with its rectangular screen fitted into the oval front. Garmin vivosmart 5 ( $149 at Amazon): This is Garmin’s cheapest fitness tracker but still comes in way pricier than the Mi Band 7.Spend a little more, and you can get the Charge 5 with an AMOLED screen and ECG as well. Unlike the Mi Band 7, it includes a built-in GPS. Fitbit Charge 4 ( $145 at Amazon): One of the oldest products on this list, the Charge 4 is still worth it if you can find it at the right price. It now packs a bright AMOLED screen and Fitbit’s usual reliable health tracking smarts. Fitbit Inspire 3 ( $99.95 at Amazon): Fitbit’s gateway fitness tracker received a huge upgrade this year. It’s only let down by the HUAWEI Health app and its fixed band which cannot be replaced. It packs spades of battery life, a smartwatch-sized screen, and native SpO2 tracking. HUAWEI Band 6 ( $54 at Amazon): Although the HUAWEI Band 7 is now official, the Band 6 is still a viable option.Find the Xiaomi Mi Band 7’s biggest rivals below. Now the likes of HUAWEI and Fitbit have viable and affordable alternatives. Finally, Notebookcheck‘s Marcus Herbrich noted that the Mi Band 7 is a case of “wasted potential.” “The only really new feature compared to the predecessor is the larger screen in combination with the always-on display function, which could provide real added value for some users, but we still see a lot of room for improvement here,” they wrote.Ī few years ago few products could hold a candle to the Mi Band line in terms of price and features.XDA‘s Ben Sin noted that even with the price increase over the Mi Band 6, the Mi Band 7 is an “easy recommendation for those looking for a good value fitness tracker.” That said, there is some criticism for the lack of upgrades on the newer model. However, they noted that the Mi Band 7 still offers “a good fitness tracking experience overall” provided you can find it at the right price. “It aspires to perform more like a sports device, yet it lacks GPS and a level of heart rate monitoring during exercise to deliver on that front,” they wrote. Wareable‘s Michael Sawh felt Xiaomi missed a trick by not providing any big updates. ![]()
